Creative Enamel Color

It's a unique type of course.

  • Each week we explore a new "enamel layer" destination.
  • I show you MY way of creating the "Seven Enamel Layers".
  • You don't learn to do it the "right way".
  • You give yourself permission to do it your way.
  • You might discover more questions than answers.
  • There are no projects; you design the tutorials that you will use to teach yourself
  • You will learn and practice the skills, both technical and artistic, that empower you to discover and make something that you LOVE.
  • You will feel more confident in your abilities to design, create, and express yourself.

Join me on an "Enamel Adventure"

  • This is a six-week course.
  • I will be your guide, your coach, and a fellow traveler.
  • You will be challenged to see and think from  new perspectives.
  • You will begin to ask new and different questions.
  • You will be challenged to step outside of your "comfort zone".
  • You will feel more connected to what you love and what you can make.

Why I've created "The Creative Enamel Color" Course

I was once where you may be now.
I had discovered enameling and was in love with the process and color. My techniques were improving. But I had hit a wall and becoming a collector of  techniques, tools, and materials was not taking my enameling to another level. But I didn't know what to do.

This is a "Project-Free Zone".
No "cookie cutter" learning here.
You will be challenged to think.
 Often and in new ways.

Generally, artists are not trying to achieve the specific goals of others.
They are not trying to follow directions.
They are attempting to find their own way.
Art is not accounting or history or law.
It's more like cooking; our taste and preference is most important.

Learning to find YOUR way is one of our main goals.

I will challenge you to step out of your comfort zone.
It's not easy to make a change. It can be frustrating.

Candie's Story
How she struggled, survived, and finally thrived in The Creative Enamel Color Course.

" I wanted to share with you my successes and struggles with that class and how your teaching method was transformative for me as both an enamel technician and an artist.

It wasn't always easy, or even pleasant to keep up with this class. I was a beginning enamellist with only a week-long class to my credit. I had a barely functioning studio; my setup was not optimal for hitting the ground running..."

Develop and expand your creative/artistic skills.

How do you improve your ability to design, create, and express yourself?
These are pretty broad and vague goals. I de-construct them into smaller and less overwhelming skills /mini-goals.
We can become more aware and intentionally practice each of these skills to help us reach our more challenging artistic goals.
I will be your Creative Skills Coach.

I call these the "Eight Creative Mindset Skills".

"When I first started watching your videos, I kept thinking why is he asking "why" all the time?  Well, you have me hooked.  I'm finding myself thinking about "why and why not" all the time now, and all the possibilities that asking that leads to"

Discover and Embrace your Artistic Enamel Vision
When we know our WHY Questions, the WHAT and HOW often becomes quite obvious.
Translate your IDEAS into enamel IMAGERY

Finding My Why?

"I am fascinated with how light passes through our world;
sunlight through the trees in the forest, light behind the clouds in the sky, and light bouncing off the surface of the ocean or lake, or through the various large and small waterfalls of a stream or river. I feel a sense of awe when I experience these phenomena

Can I capture my "wonder and awe" using enamel?

"As Simon Sinek covers in his book, Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Action, knowing your "why" is critically important in life. It is this focus that Ricky Frank employs to help artists/enamelists understand why they are doing something. He then guides students to build on their "why" as they execute their "what" (jewelry/vessel/wall piece) and "how" (enamel & metal techniques)"

Is Ricky the right teacher for me?
This course is not for everyone.
I may not be the best teacher for you.
Not everyone likes my approach.

Picture

Yes,
Ricky's classes are for you if you...

* want to explore your creative process
* are open to change and re-invention
* are willing to "play" and "experiment"
* can allow yourself to risk failing
* can accept some chaos and uncertainty
* want to make unique and personal enamel imagery
Picture

No,
Ricky's classes are NOT for you if you....

* want a teacher to give you all of the answers to your questions
* believe that you need the right way to do something
* need to make a "pretty" finished piece
* don't want to take the time to experiment
* need to be in control all of the time
* are not willing to look inside for answers

If you want someone to teach you how to make a “souvenir” project, take a class from someone else who teaches that way. If you want to learn the details of enamel work (and are willing to put in effort on your own),  then this may be the class for you. If you want to develop your own style and artistic voice (and you already know some enameling basics),  then this is definitely the class for you.- Bill O
