Learn with Ricky in Watsonville, CA in April, 2019
I will be teaching two different workshops in Watsonville, CA in April 2019.
Here are the facts:
Location: Creator Haven in Watsonville, CA (Watsonville is a small town about 1 1/2 hours south of San Francisco. In between Santa Cruz and Monterrey, 5 minutes from the coast. Lots of farming (think Driscoll Strawberries).
Dates: Week 1, April 9-13 (Tuesday-Saturday), and Week 2, April 15-19 (Monday-Friday)
Hours are 10-5- ish and we will have the opportunity to work late one evening.
Price: $700 per week or $650 per week when taken together.
This includes materials and the use of all the tools you will need. No need to purchase anything prior to the class.I supply what you will need and use.
What you will learn:
Week 1: Introduction to Cloisonne´ Enamel and Color Layers; How & Why?
1. Fundamentals of enameling including enamel principles and techniques.
2. Learn to sift and fire, paint enamel layers, prepare copper and fine silver for enamel, prepare enamel for sifting and painting, work with transparent, opaque, and opalescent enamel colors, silver and gold foil, make and use handmade/embossed fine silver foil, and explore different ways to "finish" your enamel surfaces.
3. Learn the basics of using both Cloisonne´ and Basse Taille enamel techniques. This utilizes wires to create cells, and textures under the transparent enamel to create different kinds of reflected light.
4. Begin to learn a technique for developing your ability to "think" in enamel so that you can problem solve in your own studio after the class.
5. Explore the basics of enamel design, self-expression, and your creative process.
Warning: This class is designed to make you think. I believe in principles and not rules. You will be required to think about what you are doing and why you are doing it. Emphasis will be on understanding how various enameling principles are applied and how they create different results. The emphasis will be on learning and not "making a successful enamel art piece". I like to create an atmosphere where you are not afraid to fail and actually challenge yourself to try something just to see what will happen!
