Do you sometimes feel...
stuck
overwhelmed
confused
with your enameling?

or like something is missing
and you don't know what it is

You are not alone.
I've been there too.

and so have most artists who strive for artistic growth.

you may be noticing that...
learning new tcchniques,
making new projects ,
buying new colors
may remove these feelings for awhile
sort of like taking some aspirin,

but the problem remains.
The problem usually isn’t a lack of techniques.
It’s not knowing how to use what you already know.

to start something new.
to practice what you already know to improve
and to keep going when you're not sure what to do next or where you headed.

This workshop helps you build a "practice skill set"
you may learn some new enamel techniques
you might design your own project
or play with colors in a new way,
but the real change
is learning how to coach yourself
to figure out what you want
and practice your way towards it.

3 ways of practice
How I practice

I spend lots of time practicing, but...
Often, practicing is doing something that has nothing to do with enameling, learning a technique, or making a finished piece

My practice is to improve my ability to "think in enamel". that doesn't mean that i am always enameling when i am practicing.

Stay open and collect sparks of inspiration everywhere

the marks on the skin of an over-ripe pear
the cracks in the pavement aftera light rain
lyrics  in a song or something said in a television show
an image  or memory
colors and patterns in the hotel lobby floor tiles
a gust of wind that blows cherry blossoms through the air

Change my questions to discover new directions

Use enamel to explore different types of questions
  • How can I play?
  • What variables can I control?
  • How can I interpret a photo image using this skill or color
  • What can I change to make it more interesting or focused?
  • Why do I connect to this enamel image?
