“WHAT TO DO AFTER THE WORKSHOP”

How to begin, practice, and move forward when you’re back in your own studio

When the class ends… this is where your real work begins
You return home.
You walk into your studio.
And something is different.

There’s no project to follow.
No teacher guiding your next step.
No class energy to carry you forward.

And a quiet question appears:
What do I do now?

There’s nothing wrong with taking workshops

Workshops can be valuable.

They can teach skills.
They can inspire ideas.
They can open new possibilities.

Even experienced artists continue to take them.

But they are only part of the process

When the workshop ends,
the structure ends with it.

And you are left on your own.

This is where many people get stuck

You may feel:
  • unsure what to make
  • unsure what to practice
  • unsure how to improve

So you:
  • avoid the studio
  • repeat something familiar
  • or wait until you feel ready

This isn’t a lack of skill.

It’s a lack of a way to guide yourself.

The real question changes

Instead of:
What should I make?

Try:
  • What am I noticing?
  • What am I curious about?
  • What is one small thing I can try?

You don’t need a perfect idea

You don’t need inspiration.
You don’t need to be clear.
You just need a place to begin.

You can start anywhere
  • a recent piece
  • something old
  • something you don’t like
  • a color
  • a shape
  • a question
  • a feeling

What matters is not where you start.
It’s what you do next.
That’s what creates momentum
.

What do I practice?

Not everything.
Something specific.
A small question you can explore.

Instead of:
How do I find my voice?
Try:
  • What do I like?
  • What happens if I change this?

How do I practice?

Not with a big project.
With a small study.
Simple. Focused. Repeatable.

You’re not trying to make something good.
You’re trying to learn something.

How do I know if it’s working?

Not by asking:
  • Do I like it?
  • Is this good?

Ask:
  • What happened?
  • What changed?
  • What surprised me?
  • What would I try next?

What if something goes wrong?

Good.
That’s where the process begins.

A mistake is not the end.
It’s a starting point.

This is how you move forward

You don’t need:
  • another class
  • a perfect plan
  • or the right answer

You need:
  • a way to begin
  • a way to continue
  • a way to learn from what you do

This is the real outcome

Not just what you make.
But how you work.

The ability to walk into your studio
and take the next step.
If this feels familiar--
this is exactly what we practice in the workshop.
